The Celia Bryce Band
NEWS
CD released 14 Oct
We have a new EP out helping to raise funds for the Royal British Legion. Called “May Day 1916”, the title track tells of one woman's letters to her husband at the Front in the Great War.
The song was written by Celia, guitarist Tony Schofield and bassist Colin Bradshaw with lyrics by Celia who, as well as singing, is an award-winning children's author & playwright.
‘We were writing new material for the band’s next album and Tony was playing this beautiful melody' Celia says. 'I was completely taken by it. At the time I was researching for a novel about the Great War and the words of the song just came'
'The woman's letter isn't about her troubles at home without him nor about her husband's at the Front. It's the stuff of everyday life at home, the May Day celebrations, their small family, their house, their garden. It's a life the soldier's left behind, the memory of which he clings to, like a glimpse of heaven, while he's stuck in the hell that is the Great War. It's one woman's letter, but it could be every woman's letter during wartime.'
'We had the idea that a brass band would add a sense of place & time so 3G Brass from South Shields came and added a lovely dimension. It was great to see three generations of one family [hence the name] playing their beautiful arrangement'
It is available on CD or download [on our web site, Amazon, iTunes, CD Baby, etc] as part of a collection of four songs by the Celia Bryce Band.
All proceeds from the sale of the song will go to the Royal British Legion.

Reviews for “Links”
The Celia Bryce Band's "Links" is a lovely, evocative song-set of unusual emotional eloquence. Beautifully sung. Beautifully played. Beautifully beautiful. - Peter Cooper, Nashville producer and singer/songwriter & co-host [Bob Harris] of BBC CMA 2013 coverage
Finally, the long awaited Celia Bryce band album has arrived. "I have been a fan of Celia's singing for many years and so I'm very happy to hear her new music on "Links". It's a beautiful collection of songs performed skillfully and with heart!" - Al Perkins [Flying Burrito Bros, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton]
It’s a beautiful thing congratulations. The production and performance levels are A1. Celia has a restrained power in her performance, reminiscent of Karen Carpenter in her power, I don’t know anyone who has quite that relaxed depth to their voice at the moment. – Rob Ellen, Music Promoter
